Ford has truly outdone themselves when it comes to
the design and features of the Lightning. While the Lightning doesn't look much
different from other F-150 versions, you'll find a "frunk" (a front
trunk), configurations are exclusively a Crew Cab (four doors), and the bed is
a standard 5.5-foot length. The interior of the base or "Pro" trim
level is much like that of the mid-level F-150 Lariat trim, so you'll get more
features with the Lightning than you would with a base level traditional F-150.
In fact, the "Pro" is priced for almost any budget at just over
$40,000.
The Lightning will offer a Standard Range battery that will run about
230 miles before needing a recharge; you can opt for the Extended Range battery
(which will be nestled in the truck bed and appear to be a toolbox) that adds
range to just over 300 miles. The battery of the Lightning is so powerful that
you could plug it into your house in the event of a power outage; it can power
your home for up to three days.
The Lightning will offer four trims for Gaylord and Cheboygan drivers;
most experts state the Lariat trim level will offer the most features for your
money. However, there is a Platinum trim for those who want a
"loaded" Lightning and an XLT trim for those who don't need a lot of
bells and whistles.
